Samdech Techo Hun Sen Welcomes Opposition Activist Hay Vanna to Join the CPP

Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), extended a warm welcome to Opposition activist Hay Vanna, who recently apologized for his previous affiliations with extremist opposition groups. This announcement marks a pivotal moment as Mr. Hay Vanna declares his commitment to join the political landscape alongside the CPP, aiming to contribute to the nation's development.

In a message shared publicly, Samdech Techo expressed his appreciation for Mr. Hay Vanna's decision to distance himself from the opposition, stating, "On behalf of the Cambodian People's Party, I warmly welcome Mr. Hay Vanna, who apologized for his wrongdoing on 18 August 2024 and declared his independence from the extremist opposition and committed to using his knowledge with the Cambodian people in building our nation."

Samdech Techo called for understanding and forgiveness from those who may feel anger towards Mr. Hay Vanna's past actions. He urged citizens to set aside their grievances and work together for a brighter future for Cambodia, highlighting the need for collective effort in national reconstruction.

Furthermore, he encouraged others who may be involved with extremist groups to take inspiration from Mr. Hay Vanna's example, suggesting that separating from divisive leadership is essential for contributing to the country’s progress.

In closing, Samdech Techo Hun Sen advised against politicizing the funeral of the leader of the extremist opposition group, urging that it not be exploited for political gain, especially as those leaders appear to be disengaged from the well-being of the nation.
